How to Bake Sugar Crusted Banana Bread
There is no need to be devastated after your bananas become overripe; rather than pitching them in the garbage, turn those overripe bananas into a delicious sugar-crusted banana bread. Making sugar-crusted banana bread is easy and worth your time, as it's absolutely delicious.
2 cups of all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon of baking soda
¼ teaspoon of salt
½ cup of butter
¾ cup of brown sugar
2 and ⅓ cups of mashed overripe bananas (about 4-5 bananas)
2 tablespoons of sugar (extra, for the sugar crunch)
Assemble the ingredients.Search around the kitchen for some simple ingredients. Don't forget the bananas! The items you will need are listed above.
Preheat the oven.Get your oven ready to go by preheating to 350ºF (180ºC). Lightly grease a 9"x5" loaf pan.
Making the Cake Batter
Mix the dry ingredients. In one bowl combine the baking soda, salt, and flour.
Combine the butter and brown sugar in another bowl. This will be a bit more work than the dry ingredients.
Beat in 2 eggs.Mix into the butter and brown sugar mixture.
Mash 4-5 overripe bananas to get about 2 ⅓ cups of mashed bananas.Mix this with the eggs, butter, and brown sugar. The more overripe the bananas, the easier it will be to mush them.
Combine the eggs, banana, butter, and brown sugar with the flour mixture.
Transfer to the prepared pan.Once the wet and dry ingredients are mixed, pour evenly into the greased loaf pan.
Making the Sugar Crunch Topping
Lightly sprinkle 2 tablespoons (29.6 ml) of sugar (can add more or less) on top of the batter. This will create a sugar crunch on the top of the bread.
Baking the Sugar-Crusted Banana Bread
Place the pan inside the preheated oven.Bake for about 60-65 minutes. To test if done, place a toothpick in the center of bread. If it comes out clean, the bread is done.
Take the bread out of the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes.
Serve.Carefully remove bread from pan, plate, and serve.
- If you really want to make banana bread but do not have any overripe bananas at hand, you do not necessarily have to wait for them to become overripe. You can simply mash ripened bananas and follow these steps to make bread. However, overripe bananas are sweeter in taste (because more starch has converted to sugar) and are easier to mash.
- Overmixing the flour can be a problem when making banana bread because it can cause the bread to be too chewy, which is not the outcome desired. The reason that overmixing can cause this is because the flour can form the protein gluten when agitated in the presence of water. So when making banana bread, aim to mix the flour and liquids as quickly as possible with minimal agitation in order to minimize gluten development and maximize tenderness in the final product.
- Leaving the bread baking for too long is quite an obvious mistake when baking banana bread. To avoid this, set a timer from when you put the bread into the oven and do not get too distracted. There is not really a solution to burning your bread besides starting over; chemical reactions are irreversible unfortunately.
