Four Genius Birthday Gifts For A One-Year-Old
As I mentioned, I added a "No Gifts, Please" line to Emmett's birthday party invitations …
But no one listened to me.
Still, that meant Emmett wound up with some awesome, unexpected gifts that I'm really excited about. Here are my favorites:
This was an extra-special gift from Emmett's best friend. As I've mentioned, Emmett's not walking on his own yet, but he loves to walk with the help of his wagon—especially when there's a friend in it!
Nontraditional Children's BooksEmmett and I spend a ton of time reading so I love getting books—but there are several books we've received six or seven times. (I'm looking at you,Goodnight Moon.) Instead of buying the baby best-sellers, one baby friend got Emmett a bunch of books by a local author. So smart!
A Museum MembershipThe biggest qualm I have with birthday gifts is that we don't have room for any more STUFF—especially hulking plastic toys! A bunch of moms who live in the neighborhood (and in equally small apartments!) chipped in and got the family an annual membership to the Brooklyn Children's Museum. I'm SO excited to take Emmett!
A Charitable Donation in His NameRather than skipping the gift altogether, one family gave us a card letting us know that a donation had been made to The Children's Aid Society in Emmett's honor.
