The brooch “The squirrel with an acorn” will become a charming accessory of autumn
I chose the usual work format for myself - a small brooch that can also be worn as a pendant. To create it, you need a very small beaded palette and a scattering of Swarovski crystals of different autumn colors. The main feature of this squirrel is the embroidery by rows of beads with alternation of its sizes and textures, thanks to which it is possible to achieve clear contours and a recognizable shape even in such small work.
To carry out this brooch, it is desirable to know the following techniques: sewing with beads by the "back needle" method, mosaic weaving (peyote), skinning the edge in a Russian way.
Well, let's get started!
1. Czech beads 10/0 - red with silver center # 97050 (can be replaced with Japanese Toho 11/0 # 30B, but it is slightly lighter).
2. Toho Beads 11/0 # 2610F.
3. Toho beads 11/0 # 221.
4. Toho beads 8/0 # 222.
5. Beads Miyuki Delica 11/0 # 653.
6. Beads Toho 15/0 # 46LF.
7. Toho beads 15/0 # 46L.
8. Beads Toho 15/0 # 46.
9. Beads Toho 15/0 # 989F.
10. Beads Toho 15/0 # 222.
11. Beads Toho 15/0 # 123.
12. Truncatum of 4-faced 1,5 mm - color amber.
13.Gimp smooth 1 mm rusty brown.
We also need the followingcrystals Swarovski
- Oval Fancy stone 14 × 10 mm colorsLt.Smoked Topaz+ rim for him in the color of gold or brass - 1 pc .;
- bicone beads 5328 size 4 mm colorsSmoked Topaz, Topaz, Crystal Copper, Crystal Bronze Shade- 15-20 pieces of each color (they are used in the chaotic embroidery of a squirrel tail, the total quantity for filling it is 50-52 things);
- bicone beads 5328 size 3 mm colorsCrystal Copper- 20 pcs .;
- one bead-bicone 3 mm colorJetor any other 3mm black bead for a squirrel eye.
And, of course, we need:
- needles for beads (preferably Pony);
- basis for embroidery (I have brown Rayher felt);
- Threads for embroidery - for example, kapron 50K brown to match the felt. Optionally - monofilament (for sewing on the trunzal) and Fireline braided fishing line - Crystal, 8Lb (for edge trimming);
- the material for the seamy side is genuine leather (I have a dark red color), but you can take suede, leatherette or the same felt;
- a base for a brooch with a loop under a pendant of gold color;
- scissors, glue Moment "Crystal", thick cardboard.
Stage one. Preparatory.
Since our squirrel is not an abstract creature, but a very real one, it makes sense to get acquainted with its image in more detail.This will help us any search engine with pictures. I liked the classic angle of a squirrel in profile, and I picked up some beautiful photos and printed them in a small size on A4 paper. I am crouching one of the most beloved squirrels along the contour and cutting it out.
Next we need to transfer this outline to the base for embroidery. I have a black Faber Castell Ecco Pigment 0.3 capillary pen for this purpose. Circle the entire squirrel. The backrest line is also easy to translate: make holes in the paper blank with a needle and put dots on the felt through them. Then just connect them.
Now you can cut a piece of felt for work. I advise you to cut sharp corners of the felt, this will help a little when embroidering - the thread will cling less to this edge.
Done! Go to embroidery!
Stage Two. We embroider a squirrel.
The whole squirrel is embroidered with a simple seam "back needle". I always sew one by one beads, for me it is a pledge of even contours. If you are used to sew 2 beads each and achieve the same result - this is great, the squirrel will be ready faster! The seam "back needle" is briefly shown in the photo below:
Thus, we embroider the contour of the thigh and the back of our squirrel, we use Czech red beads "flame".
Now it's the turn of the ear and the faces:
Next, we embroider the upper foot, tummy and lower foot:
And at the end of our circuit - the tail:
Now we will fill this space. Starting from the contour of the thigh, we sew small beads 15/0 # 46LF to the ear, then to the tip of the upper leg:
It was the turn to sew a truncal. This is a rather capricious material in the work - the metal faceted spring is easy to wrinkle or stretch. But we will be careful, right? For sewing better take monofilament in 1-2 addition. Sew on the truncal should be attached at small equal intervals.
Now decorate the back with Swarovski crystals. Alternate one 3mm Crystal Copper Crystal with one 8/0 # 222 bead.
We still have a small area on the hip-back. We fill with beads and truncal.
Now we sew the lower paw and tummy.
The top foot is embroidered with a red “sparkle”, small dark brown beads and light bronze:
Now we are embroidering our head. At that moment, I realized that the line of the ear still goes perfectly into the lower part of the face, so I connected this circuit (the first item in the photo below).
When you sew over the eye, take 4 beads 989F. At the present fiber the glazik is always slightly underlined by a light fur. Why don't we repeat that? (point 3 in the photo below).
The ear of a squirrel is usually slightly darker, and we need to emphasize this. Here a small piece of chunk comes in handy, which can be strung on a needle like a bugle, and attach this spring to the base. The inside of the ear will be decorated with dark brown small beads.
It remains quite a bit - to fill our face. It's time to make eyes - so the protein will immediately look more real and alive. The eyes are made of 3 mm black bicone or another 3 mm black bead.
At this point we finished squirrel embroidery ... ah, no! What is a squirrel without a fluffy tail?
Let's make our beauty a luxurious tail of Swarovski crystals. For this we need a scattering of 4 mm of crystals of four colors. Make the jointing randomly, sewing on one crystal. Regarding the arrangement of flowers, follow the following recommendation: the darkest color (Smoked Topaz) should go along the back - this will emphasize the red contour and the line of the tail itself. In the middle part of the tail, use the Crystal Copper - it is a very squirrel red color. Along the edge is yellowish Topaz. And the very top of the top can be decorated with Crystal Bronze Shade - it is grayish-brown and slightly dilutes the overall red gamut.
Sewing these crystals within a limited space can be difficult. If the beads do not fit at all, 3 mm crystals of crystal copper will come to the rescue. I needed 4 things in the tail:
At this point we finished the embroidery squirrel stage. Now we need to make a squirrel full and contented with it, and therefore we weave her an acorn!
Stage Three. Making an acorn.
The acorn will be difficult for us - there is an oval Swarovski crystal hiding in its middle. To begin with, gently insert the crystal into the frame and rotate the DAC. I do this with the tip of the nail scissors. Sew the crystal to the base between the upper and lower legs of the squirrel. Now start embroidering the acorn cap. I sew on 2 (!) Japanese mustard-beaded miyuki delica beads. Sew the 13 beads so that the 7th of them is strictly on the top of the oval. This is the key to a neat and level head! Next, sew already one bead 15/0 # 46 with a regular stitch.
We spin a hat acorn. This element is very tricky and confusing, I hope the photo below will help you understand it.
To begin with, we draw the needle into the first mustard bead. We weave one row of mosaic mustard beads. We turn and weave another row. Since we are based on an odd number of beads (13), at the end of this row we will have to make a small trick - go through several beads of the lower rowsto exit again through the last (points 3 and 4 in the photo below).
Cut off a small piece of gimp and make a screed on top of the crystal. Weave another row of mosaic mustard beads. At the end of the row we collect another coupler - 8 pcs. 11/0 221. We weave another row of mustard beads and pass one more time through the last bead tie:
Bring one mustard, one 15/0 # 222, two mustard, one 15/0 # 222, again one mustard. Pass through the bead tie again and the mustard bead following it. Tie down a string as shown in the photo below. The thread comes out of the extreme mustard bead.
Left a little. Add another tie of 9 pcs. 15/0 # 222, in the next row - 2 pcs. mustard sauce, then a screed from a small piece of gimp and the final bead at the very top of the acorn:
We still have only small blank areas of the base around the acorn. I decided to embroider them like that. Belly squirrel has clearly become larger. Well, exactly fed!
The embroidery is finished. Now turn it into a brooch!
Stage Four. Exlusive.
Carefully cut out the embroidery on the contour with sharp scissors. Be careful not to cut the thread at the edge of the work!
On a piece of cardboard we draw a pencil around our squirrel. We retreat from the contour inside 3 mm and cut out. Glue the cardboard to the inside of the embroidery with the glue "Moment Crystal".
After the glue dries, you can plan the location of the blank for the brooch. I advise you to take paper tape and glue them to the cardboard. Paper tape is not glued tight, but holds tightly enough so that you can try on a brooch to clothes. If you have a workpiece with a loop for the pendant, try hanging the embroidery on the chain. Adjust the location of the workpiece so that the decoration looks the right way. Once the desired position is found, mark the position of the blank on the cardboard and glue it to it with an ordinary transparent tape. It is better to bend the loop for the pendant slightly upwards, this will help when working with the skin.
On a piece of leather of the desired size, mark and cut holes with a sharp knife and / or scissors for the square holes for the blank elements for the brooch (point 1). "Put on" the skin on the workpiece (paragraph 2). Gradually coat the cardboard with glue and press the skin - first under the workpiece (item 3), then over it and herself (item 4). Leave to dry.
Cut the skin along the contour, leaving 1 mm at the edges.
Edging in the Russian way.
The entire edge of the squirrel is sheathed one by one in a “Russian way”.
In brief, this method illustrates the following photo.
1.I start at the base of the tail. Bring the thread on the front side through the felt.
2. Pass in the same place through the skin and felt.
3. Type one bead, back away from the last puncture point, one bead and go through the skin and felt.
4. Pass into the resulting loop and tighten.
In the next photo I indicated the bead numbers used in the edge skinning on different sites.
