3D backlit paper picture

Paper 3D painting with backlightingis an interesting project of 3D paper paintings, the project is not as complicated as it may seem at first glance, but very laborious. Thanks to the backlight in the dark, the picture looks amazing, the drawing comes to life and it seems that you find yourself in a fairy tale. Using the basics of this master class, you can create a picture with any pattern.

Materials and tools:

For the picture:

  1. thin paper;
  2. copy paper;
  3. thick (thick) paper (or thin cardboard);
  4. strips of dense foam with a self-adhesive surface (foam and double-sided tape);
  5. pencil;
  6. paper knife, stationery knife;
  7. eraser;
  8. make the printer easier.

For the frame:

  1. plywood;
  2. carpenter's glue;
  3. glue gun;
  4. sandpaper;
  5. screws;
  6. varnish (paint) and brush.

  1. LEDs or LED strip;
  2. wires;
  3. switch;
  4. resistors (as needed);
  5. Power source.

Step 1

On paper, draw (or print) a pencil drawing. We put numbers of layers, numbers we apply on main elements of drawing. It is very important to imagine how the layers and the whole picture will go in order to correctly number the layers - the main elements in front, the background behind. Particular attention is paid to the layers that overlap.

Important: surely indent 0.5-1 cm from the sheet edge.

Step 2

The most painstaking and important step - cut out the layers of 3D paintings. This step will be easier if you print the required number of copies (depending on the number of layers) of the pattern on the printer, and then cut each layer of the picture with a paper knife.

If there is no printer, then each layer is copied from the main pattern using copy paper or thin paper, and then cut out.

Do not forget to leave a frame indent. When cutting, sign layer numbers.

After all the layers of the picture are ready. We glue the layers together using foam rubber strips and double-sided tape (see figure). Glue in the corners and sides in the middle.

Step 3

From the plywood we make a frame for the picture. The size and depth of the frame depends on your picture. Glue the frame with wood glue or fasten with screws. Then we paint.

To hide the frame-indent of the picture, we cut, for example, from the thick cardboard the front frame (see figure). Do not forget about the glass, protecting the picture.

Step 4

Getting started.

We cut out 2 rectangles from thick cardboard. One set inside the frame, then install the backlight, through the back of the output wire to connect to the power source. Above the backlight we will put the second sheet of a dense picture.

Then set the picture inside the frame, then the front frame and the glass.A 3D paper pictureis ready.
